Last Saturday, IFMA celebrated Wan Dek, Thailand’s unique Children’s Day, at Lan Kru Sua, one of the many “Sport Is Your Gang” locations in Bangkok. Situated in Khlong Toei, one of the city’s poorest areas, the facility provides a safe haven for children to train in Muaythai, keeping them away from negative temptations such as drugs and gangs. This initiative, run by Kru Kay, showcases IFMA’s dedication to community support and youth empowerment.

Children’s Day, or Wan Dek, is celebrated annually on the second Saturday in January. Unlike the United Nations Universal Children’s Day, which is observed globally on November 20th, Wan Dek is unique to Thailand. This special day celebrates children, reinforcing good values and recognizing their contributions to the country’s future. It’s a day filled with fun and gratitude, where parents and the community come together to honor and bond with the younger generation.

The Lan Muay Kru Sua Khlong Toei Children’s Day event was a resounding success. Dr. Sakchye, President of IFMA and AMTAT, alongside AIMS and UTS President Stephan Fox, officially opened the event. The IFMA family, including members, HQ staff, and local officials, showed tremendous support, donating goods and toys to the community and awarding medals to the children.

This year, the event carried a special #dogoodfeelgood vibe, ringing in 2025 with positivity and community spirit. The presence of Mongkon Academy, which has previously brought national teams to train with the kids, added to the day’s excitement and inspiration.

IFMA’s celebration of Wan Dek at Lan Kru Sua is a testament to the power of sport in fostering social development, building character, and creating safe, supportive environments for children. Through these efforts, IFMA continues to make a meaningful impact, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
