Last Saturday was a night to remember in Adelaide as the Pride Fight Series returned to the Hart Mills for its 7th edition—an evening of elite-level Muaythai. Sanctioned by the WMC and Muaythai Australia, IFMA’s sole Australian member, the event delivered on all levels with a stacked card featuring some of Australia’s best fighters.
The highlight of the evening was the WMC state title fight in the welterweight division, which saw Mohammad Zaid face off against Tevita Maka in a winner-takes-all bout—for both bragging rights over the division and, of course, the prestigious belt. After five hard-fought rounds, it was Mohammad who claimed the victory by decision after an amazing fight.
The WMC got to catch up with Mohammad earlier and discuss his win and he said the following:
I just rewatched it and it was a tough fight but I felt good in there, wanted to do more but didn’t wanna gas myself for the later rounds.
I felt strong and calm and stuck to my plan when it came to catching his kicks. I still feel the same as I always believed I was going to win, but of course it feels good to have gotten the win for everyone supporting me.
My plan now is to keep fighting and get as much more experience as I can before I defend it against Jack Spacie. I always step up in experience and look for tougher fights, so that’s all I want to do.
