New Delhi, India – The Namaste Thailand Festival, hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, celebrated the rich cultural ties between India and Thailand, highlighting shared traditions, values, and friendship.

A major highlight of the festival was the prominent showcase of Muaythai, which captured the attention of audiences and reinforced its growing popularity across India. Demonstrations reflected not only the sport’s dynamic nature but also its deep-rooted cultural heritage, discipline, and values of respect and integrity.

Strengthening Muaythai Development in India

During the festival, the United Muaythai Association of India (UMAI), the IFMA-recognised national federation for India, outlined the continued development and expansion of Muaythai across the country.

Muaythai in India has seen significant growth at all levels — from grassroots participation to elite competition. Through structured programmes, education initiatives, and national activities, UMAI continues to ensure that Muaythai is promoted not only as a sport, but as a way of life grounded in values, discipline, and cultural identity.

India has also established itself as a key hub for education, hosting some of the largest Muaythai instructor workshops annually, further strengthening technical standards and safeguarding principles nationwide.

High-Level Engagement and Future Initiatives

A special meeting took place between UMAI representatives and
H.E. Ms. Chavanart Thangsumphant, Ambassador of Thailand to India.

Shri Ram Chaudhary, Secretary General of UMAI, extended a warm welcome and formally honoured the Ambassador on her appointment.

During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed her strong support for the continued development and promotion of Muaythai in India. She also shared plans to launch a dedicated publication highlighting UMAI’s activities, achievements, and the growth of Muaythai across the country.

She further applauded India and all IFMA member federations for their dedication and hard work in advancing Muaythai’s global recognition, emphasizing its dual identity — not only as a combat sport, but also as a cultural discipline aligned with Olympic values.
