Laura Burgos needs no introduction in the world of sport. A Muaythai superstar, Emmy-nominated reality TV champion (Challenger Muaythai), Queen’s Cup winner and multiple-time world champion, she is the pride of her native Mexico.

Beyond her accolades, Laura is a dedicated advocate for clean sport, both on and off the field of play. She also serves as the Vice Chair of the IFMA Athletes Commission, further solidifying her role in championing athletes’ rights and well-being.

IFMA has always placed athletes at the heart of the Muaythai movement, ensuring their voices are heard and their interests prioritized. The Athletes Commission holds a permanent seat on the IFMA Executive Board, entrusted with the critical responsibility of supporting, promoting, and empowering athletes worldwide.

In a recent interview, Laura emphasized the importance of athletes as the centerpiece of Muaythai, advocating for health, safety, and integrity in the sport. As a true role model, she continues to inspire the next generation of Nak Muays, helping shape the future of Muaythai.

Since its formation in 1998, the IFMA Athletes Commission has been led by some of the sport’s most iconic figures, including:
- Artem Levin – Multiple-time world champion
- Valentina Shevchenko – Global superstar and IFMA alumna
- Janice Lyn – Former Athletes Commission Chair, now IFMA Sport Director
- Lennert Swart – Current Athletes Commission Chair
For over two decades, IFMA has hosted annual regional and world conferences, where athletes actively shape initiatives designed by athletes, for athletes. These programs focus on supporting Nak Muays in every stage of their journey—especially in areas where guidance and resources are most needed.

Laura Burgos expressed her pride in being part of an organization where athletes’ voices are not only heard but given the highest importance. As IFMA continues its mission of athlete empowerment, all eyes are now set on the IFMA World Athletes Conference in Antalya on May 30th, where the global athlete community will come together to further strengthen the future of Muaythai.
