Muaythai, also known as Muay, has officially been added to the sports programme of the 2025 Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Asian Youth Games, set to take place in Bahrain from 22 to 31 October. This marks a historic milestone for the sport, which is widely practised across Southeast Asia and globally under the governance of IFMA, the International Olympic Committee (IOC)-recognised world body for Muaythai.
IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan hailed this achievement as a testament to IFMA’s unwavering commitment to youth development. He emphasised that Muaythai’s inclusion in the Games reflects the success of IFMA’s flagship initiatives, which promote cultural, sporting, and educational exchange among young athletes.

H.E. Abdullah Al Neyadi, President of the Federation of Asian Muaythai Associations (FAMA)—IFMA’s continental arm in Asia—expressed deep gratitude to the OCA and the Bahrain National Olympic Committee (NOC), under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, for their support and trust. He assured that Muaythai’s participation would contribute to an outstanding and memorable event for the youth of Asia.
With over 40 member countries across Asia, FAMA continues to champion full gender equality, ensuring inclusivity and representation across the continent.
This historic achievement belongs to—and is dedicated to—the youth of Asia.
