Following the resounding success of the 2024 African Muaythai Championships in Egypt, the spotlight now shifts to Libya, the proud host of the 2025 edition. This marks another milestone for African Muaythai, as Libya, a nation with a deep-rooted combat sports tradition, prepares to welcome the continent’s top athletes to its shores.
No stranger to hosting prestigious Muaythai events, Libya successfully organised the 2023 Arab Championships, an event hailed as one of the most outstanding of the year. Now, the country is set to deliver yet another unforgettable championship, reinforcing Africa’s growing status on the global Muaythai stage.
A Historic Moment for Libyan Muaythai
President of the Libyan Muaythai Federation, Mr. Mohamad Zarouk, expressed his gratitude to IFMA and the African Muaythai Union (AMU) for entrusting Libya with the honour of hosting the championship.
“This is a moment of immense pride for Libya. We are committed to delivering an exceptional event that will showcase the passion and skill of African Muaythai athletes while celebrating the unity and spirit of our sport.”
African Muaythai on the Rise
Muaythai continues to surge in popularity across Africa, with its athletes making waves on the international stage. This rapid growth is paving the way for an even bigger achievement: the inclusion of Muaythai in the 2027 African Games.
AMU President Driss El Hilali highlighted the remarkable progress, stating:
“The success of African athletes in Muaythai over the past year has been phenomenal. We have witnessed an incredible boom in the sport across the continent, and the 2025 African Championships will be another step forward in our journey toward greater recognition.”
A Vision Beyond Sport
IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan emphasised IFMA’s broader mission, saying:
“IFMA is truly proud of the dedication and development of Muaythai in Africa. But for us, it’s about more than just sport. Muaythai promotes social cohesion, national solidarity, and cultural exchange, bringing people together through shared values of respect, honour, and excellence.”
With anticipation building and preparations in full swing, the African Muaythai Championships 2025 promises to be a landmark event, uniting athletes, fans, and communities in the spirit of sport and tradition.
