The first round of Angel fight took place last night, the 9th April at the Sports Authority of Thailand. The 16-person female event will take place over the next 3 months and aims to further promote female Muaythai internationally. The event features an IFMA all start line up as well as some WMC heroines also.
The first fight of the evening saw a Mediterranean showdown between Atenea Flores Pertegas (Spain) and Maria Lobo the IFMA European champion (Portugal) The bout saw a strong start from both fighters with Atenea displaying excellent ringcraft. but Maria was too strong and kept coming forward taking the win.
The second fight saw Russian Fighter Polina Pertrova go head to head with Japanese fighter Jinnai Madoka. In the first round both fighters came in strong both landing clean shots, fighting clinically, with Jinnai just outclassing her Russian opponent by the final bell.
The third fight saw Namtarn Por Muengpetch (Thailand) go up against Tereza Dvorakova (Czech Republic). Namtarn seemed happy in the clinch playing the numbers game, although the strength of Tereza was at some points overwhelming to the Thai athlete. Nevertheless, it was Namtarn that outfoxed her opponent, winning on points.
Next up was Zhang Jiao from China vs multiple IFMA champion and WMC world champion Sofia Olofsson. After an explosive first round with Sofia landing the majority of strikes the fight went to the clinch where the barrage of Knees from the Swedish superstar took the win over her Chinese opponent.
Chomannee Sor Taehiren multiple IFMA champion (Thailand) vs Funda Diken (Turkey) was the next fight. Another explosive start with Chomannee taking the win in the end by executing punch combinations followed up by knees.
Fight six saw Yolanda Schmidt from South Africa take a win over Nicola Callander in which was a great fight. True sportsmanship between both athletes who displayed their respect for each other from the very beginning.
Next up was Natalie Morgan from the USA against Sun Jing from China. This was another great fight in which both athletes showed true spirit with Natalie going home victorious.
The final bout of the evening saw Lucy Payne from the UK challenge Fani Peloumpi from Greece, Fani is a tough fighter and made it really difficult but Lucy was able to secure the win
