Saturday the 28th of December saw the first professional muaythai event put together by the recently established WMC Sri Lanka in the Royal Mas Arena in the countries capital Colombo. The Sri Lankan Muaythai Federation under the presidency of Mr Asoka Jayarathna has been working tirelessly over the last 6 months to establish the professional side of muaythai in Sri Lanka and this first event bore the fruits of their hard labour.
The first event was a massive success boasting 11 professional fights with the best of the best from Sri Lanka. The atmosphere in the venue was amazing as all the fans of the athletes together with their families were in attendance to cheer on their heroes.
Her Excellency Mrs Chulamanee the Royal Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka was in attendance to preside over the event as a guest of honour.
The President of the Sri Lankan Muaythai Federation Mr Asoka Jayarathna stated that this event was a great start for professional muaythai in Sri Lanka. Muaythai is already well established here in the amateur world and our aim is to continue to promote professional events in order to provide a platform for professional athletes.
