Sunday the 15th of October will be a date to remember in the Italian Muaythai calendar this year as Valerio Ghionna became the new WMC European champion. The Colonnese promotion which is sanctioned by the WMC and Federkombat, the IFMA Italian federation, hosted the bout as part of the main card which saw Lukas Mandinec from Slovakia defend his Lightweight European title against the Italian challenger Valerio Ghionna.
Valerio was very much the underdog going into this fight as Lukas has won both the WMC European and Intercontinental titles as well as representing Slovakia at the World Games. The fight was toe to toe from the first round with both athletes delivering a masterclass in muaythai. At the end of five rounds and after a very close fight, the hand of the Italian fighter was raised with a unanimous decision.
Congratulations to all involved on another great event!
